He did turn water into wine didn’t he? someone who finds no need for any type of liquid to hydrate themselves other the wine must be considered to have a problem under the Alcoholics Anonymous guidelines =S.
Just a few days ago as I was sitting on my throne of thought (the toilet), opening pages at random of my book of wisdom (old Oxford 1978 pocket size edition dictionary)…one word stood out above all others, not because it was special in itself but together with the word underneath it created a whole new concept…the word was “Catholics” and beneath it laid “Cattle” =D.
Before anything I would like to state I am not an Atheist…I simply wasn’t there to witness the creation of the Universe so I can’t have a definite opinion on God, but neither was anyone else to try and convince me otherwise…therefore, I consider myself Agnostic.
Like many other children from traditional families, I grew up in a religious household, it my case it was not quite so strict as only one of my grandparents believed in God while the other didn’t…the type of thing you go to ask your Grandma your typical curious child question “Where do we come from?” and she’d answer “Adam and Eve my little big headed one”, but when you asked your Grandad he’d explain the whole Darwinian theory of evolution from monkeys, so all confused…you’d run back to Grandma to tell her what Grandad had said and she’d answer: “He’s told you about his side of the family and I’ve told you about mine”.
My grandmother wanted to try different religions as I guess she felt something was missing, we tried several over the years from Jehovah Witnesses to Buddhism but that only made me even more confused about religions as I started to wonder…which is the true religion? are my grandparents condemning me to hell by dragging me along into different “fake” religions when there is truly only one real God? And when that passed through my mind something else occurred to me…as children, we don’t have a say in what religion we decide to follow for the rest of our lives, the majority of us will follow whatever religion our parents followed the same way we learn the language everyone around us speaks…Could this be a valid reason to call child services and inform them this form of “child abuse” the entire religious community is inflicting amongst their children and the children of their children in a vicious never ending circle? I mean…this is way worse than being mentally or physically abused cause that only lasts a few years, we don’t have a say in who our parents end up being so the least we could have is a say in our religion…after all, this decision is going to affect our eternal after life and we don’t get a say in it? How can a parent sleep at night? are they that certain and confident their inherited chosen religion is the right one and the hundreds of others are all mistaken, that they are willing to take that risk and decide the eternal fate of their innocent child’s soul?, religions are like farts after all, yours is okay, but everyone else’s stinks.
To any religious person reading this…would you have found your way back to your current belief system having been born in India, Sudan, Italy, Algeria, Germany, Thailand or North America?
Without any say, I was sent to a Catholic school for a while (and successfully got expelled soon after by presenting this as my art project), at first I was excited…I thought living amongst the believers might answer some of my questions and take away my doubts =), it didn’t take more than the first hour long class to leave me traumatized for life (and it wasn’t due to the depressing, morbid and agonizing portrayal of Jesus on the cross in every single corner of the school working your guilt of him dying for our sins)…the teacher was explaining why Adam and Eve were kicked out of Paradise leaving me astonished!, he said it was because they ate from the “Tree of Knowledge”…What!!?? you mean God didn’t want us to be smart??? What the Hell am I doing at school then!!!?, the teacher answered, “no my son, this was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”, “ohhh, I see…, so how were they expected to know if it was good or evil to eat the apple without tasting it to gain that skill?” I asked, politely he answered I was still new and my questions would disappear once I knew more.It couldn’t of been more than 20 minutes later, the teacher started explaining what Adam and Eve did once they were outside of Paradise…they had children =), and the children of their children had more children…, at this point my eyes were wide open and my jaw was on my lap “Waiitttt, hold up!” I said as I gasped, “You mean God is cool with incest!!!???….sweeeet, as soon as I get home I’m asking my absent mother for a little sister!…” =S.
This went on for the rest of the class…asking if the food back then had fetus dye so it could explain why there is different colored people, if God was some type of resentful control freak who had to throw a tantrum and punish the entire human race by inheriting Adam and Eve’s sin for thousands of years just because they didn’t do what he said and made a mistake…whatever happen to the “God is all forgiving” part? This also contradicts the “God is all knowing” phrase (I’m going to spare you the joke I can make of already knowing Satan would turn on him)…if he’s all knowing, doesn’t he know basic psychology? If you give your little human experiment the mental ability of curiosity, then give him an all access pass to Paradise but prohibit the one little tree…of course their going to try it, that’s the whole point of curiosity =|.By the end of the class I couldn’t hide my enthusiasm of wanting to know how my teacher planned to explain Dinosaurs into his whole Bible equation of evolution within the next few weeks and even more excited I was to ask about Noah managing to get two of each animal (the millions of varieties including bugs and insects) into an Ark that such a feat would be impossible now even with modern technology.
You know I would of turned to Atheism completely along time ago if it weren’t for the fact that their Holidays are very limited not to mention they ironically seem to take religions more seriously than the actual followers =S, I wouldn’t of minded swallowing the religious pill without chewing and ignoring things like the universe only being 10,000 years old but the lack of humor in the Bible says a lot about what type of person I’d end up becoming.
Philosophy seems more along my path, it’s the evolution of primitive Religion, it will ask the questions you can never answer which for an open mind beats religions offering answers you can never question…I am certain though that religions will outlast humanity, for it’s the only place you’ll find the users of such a business blaming themselves for the failure of the product.
